Huangshan

HUANGSHAN

“No mountain is worth seeing after you’ve seen the beauty of Five Sacred Mountains; no Sacred Mountain is as magnificent as you thought it to be after returning from Huangshan,” remarked Xu Xiake, the famous Ming Dynasty travel writer. Though Huangshan is not part of the Five Sacred Mountains, its wondrous appeal places it well above all other mountains in China. Huangshan was acclaimed by artists and literates throughout Chinese history, and continues to captivate visitors today.

Yellow Mountains –The mountain folklore and all the peaks’ names are vividly rooted in the peculiar shapes of the peaks. The dense growth of pines, delicately contoured rocks, spectacular sea of clouds, and gushing hot springs are the ‘Four Signature Wonders’ of Huangshan. Known as ‘the prettiest mountain on earth,’ the magic of Huangshan lies in the variety of unpredictable scenes that you will find here. The mountain panorama never repeats, each day being more strikingly beautiful than the day before.

Living Ancient Dwelling Musuems – More than 4,000 well-preserved old houses dating from Ming and Qing Dynasties can be found in the villages near Huangshan. They display the Chinese art in wood, stone and brick carving, and serve as intact records of Chinese ancient civilizations and cultures. The two most honored traditional villages are Xidi and Hongcun, which attract architects, historians and artists worldwide because they provide the best distinctive examples of China during the past few centuries. While exploring the Hui-style ancient dwellings and family ancestral shrines, you will learn about this authentic lifestyle that has existed since the beginning of China.
